The company announced the purchase on Oct. 2. Construction is set to start in early 2027 (H-E-B, 2026).

That is the whole timeline so far. H-E-B has not shared the store size, the cost, or a floor plan. The company said more details will come as the project moves along.

Where the store will go

The land sits inside Overland, a 250-acre master-planned development. A master-planned development is a large piece of land where one developer lays out the roads, stores and homes ahead of time.

The developer is Cassco, the real estate arm of the Edwards family. The family has owned Edwards Ranch since 1848. Cassco has been building on that land since 1956, including Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park and Tanglewood (H-E-B, 2026).

The site is across the parkway from the Autobahn Fort Worth dealership campus, which covers nearly 75 acres and is under construction now, the Fort Worth Report reported (Fort Worth Report, 2026).

A Walmart Supercenter has been open just east of the corner, at 6300 Oakmont Blvd., since 2004, according to CultureMap Fort Worth (Gubbins, 2026).

The worst-kept secret on the parkway

This news has been coming for two years.

In September 2024, Cassco asked the city to annex about 145 acres around 6600 Oakmont Blvd. Annexing means bringing land into the city limits. About 101 acres were for development and 44 acres were for roads, WFAA reported. The paperwork mentioned a grocery store at a major intersection but did not name it (WFAA, 2024a).

Two months later, the Fort Worth Zoning Commission took up the case. The project engineer said he could not name the grocer. The commission chair asked if the company was "known for its tortillas" (WFAA, 2024b).

Now we have the answer in writing.

How this fits with H-E-B's other local stores

H-E-B's first Fort Worth store opened in Alliance in April 2024. Mansfield followed in June 2024 and Euless opened in May 2026 (Gubbins, 2026).

The Walsh Ranch store is next. A state filing lists that building at 127,754 square feet, with an estimated cost of $18 million and a completion date of Dec. 16, 2026 (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, 2025). That is a construction date, not an opening date.

The Star-Telegram counts the Oakmont store as the third H-E-B in Fort Worth (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 2026).

There is one more site to watch. H-E-B has owned about 15 acres at The Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, off McPherson Boulevard, since March 2023. No store has been announced there. The company says it often buys large tracts and sells off smaller pieces (Fort Worth Report, 2026). So owning land is not the same as building a store.

What makes the Oakmont site different is how far in it sits. H-E-B executive Stephen Butt said customers have asked for years when a store would come closer to downtown, and "that day is soon" (H-E-B, 2026).

What it means for nearby homeowners and buyers

The neighborhoods closest to this corner are not in Aledo. They are in southwest Fort Worth: Hulen Bend, Quail Ridge Estates, Mira Vista, Park Palisades, Meadows West and Overton Woods. Benbrook neighborhoods like Westpark and Timbercreek are a short drive west on I-20 or down Altamesa Blvd.

Overland itself may add homes later. City zoning paperwork described future residential pieces, though I have not seen a plan with home counts or dates.

If you are a move-up buyer. You have a home to sell and you are shopping for the next one. A big grocery store changes the weekly routine: where you shop, which roads you take, how long the errand run lasts. Buyers ask about that. If you are selling near this corner over the next two years, the store is a real talking point, with a real date attached. It is also still a plan. The doors do not open until late 2028, and a lot can shift on a construction schedule.

If you are an empty-nester. You want less upkeep and shorter drives. This corner is filling in with daily-needs retail on a road that connects to I-20, Bryant Irvin and Hulen. The tradeoff is traffic and two-plus years of construction on Oakmont, with the Autobahn campus and a new connector road to Overton Ridge Boulevard going in at the same time.

For Aledo readers in Walsh Ranch, Morning Star, Parks of Aledo and Bear Creek, the store that matters most to you is the Walsh Ranch H-E-B, not this one.

No one can promise what a grocery store does to a home's price, and I won't. What I can do is tell you what is selling near this corner right now and why.
